The Seattle Seahawks have traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders in return for a third-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, according to multiple reports. The move reunites Smith with former Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, who now leads the Raiders.

Smith started 17 games last season, throwing for a franchise-record 4,320 yards to go along with 21 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. His 53.8 QBR ranked 21st in the NFL.

The Seahawks finished 10-7 last year, second in the NFC West, but missed the postseason.

Seattle coach Mike Macdonald last month said Smith, 34, was their quarterback of the future.

“Geno’s our quarterback,” Macdonald said last month. “I don’t understand the conversation. It’s pretty obvious this guy is a heck of a quarterback. He’s our quarterback. We love him. Can’t wait to go to work with him.”

The Seahawks may now turn to a veteran free-agent quarterback. Options could include former Minnesota Vikings signal-caller Sam Darnold, whose career resurgence in 2024 was soured by a pair of losses to end the season; or Kirk Cousins, who was a splashy offseason signing in Atlanta one year ago only to lose his starting job.

Las Vegas was in need of a quarterback after starting three last season. Gardner Minshew, who started nine of 17 games, is expected to be released according to multiple reports.

The Raiders were 4-13 last season, their third straight year finishing with a record under .500. Carroll was hired after former coach Antonio Pierce was fired in January. They hold the No. 6 overall selection in April’s NFL Draft.
